Day-of-the-Reader/School BBQ With the support of the school principal we organize a day for dads to go to their children's classroom and read too and with their children. Literacy is a priority for our children and dads back it up all the way by taking a day off work to show the kids that they are more than just muscle. Dad's rotate through the classrooms so that each of their own kids experience the excitement of having their dad read to the class. The teachers love having the involvement of the dads and the teachers bring their dads too. The dads feel good about the time they spent with their child and the kids just plan ol' love it. After reading to the kids and working up and appitite the dads stay to have a bar-b-que style lunch with the kids and visit before leaving the campus.
Father/Daughter Dance A night to remember! Dad's Club sponsors an evening of fun and elegance to young girls who need the affirmation that only a father can give. Dads take time to spend with the other significant girl(s) in our life, our daughter(s). Complete with a DJ, cake, juice and some fun dancing set in a wonderfully decorated room, compliments of the moms.
Camp-out - Sleep-overs A western style BBQ followed by a camp-out with lots of fun, games, stories and more. This adventure provides quality time that children need and desire. Dad's, leaving the weight of responsibilities behind, bring their kids to their school and have a sleep over. Following a great meal this evening includes special guests such as your local fire chief, mayor and/or police chief to come give encouragement to your kids. Talented teachers or other volunteers lead the group in fun camp songs and much much more. The following morning after a warm breakfast dad and their children will return home to share their adventures with their well rested mom.
Ice Cream Socials and Pizza Parties I scream, you scream lets all scream for ICE CREAM. The Dad's Club sponsors a child or classroom for a special achievement award as a form of encouragement for a job well done. Sporting Events A family day out to socialize and build family relationships while enjoying one of your favorite professional sporting events. From baseball to hockey you will cheer on your team while eating some hot dogs, hamburgers a soda and cracker jacks.
Gift-a-Christmas Program This program is not just about handing out a turkey or a ham to needy families, giving Christmas trees away or buying a gift for one child who may not get anything. This program does it all. Families are selected by referrals from schools, community agencies and/or churches, whereby families receive the "Gift-a-Christmas" which includes: A full Christmas dinner plus a large box of groceries for future need, a Christmas tree with decorations and lights and the children's Christmas wish list filled. None of these gifts has a tag with Dad's Club on it anywhere. All tags say from Santa, Mom and Dad. It's the parents who need recognition from their children... not the Dad's Club. We gift as many Christmas's as donations come in from local patrons and citizens. Even the packaging which takes place at the local fire or police dept. and delivery becomes a parent/child event as we need many volunteers from our Dad's Club members, local fire and police dept. to make this heart warming event a success. In doing this we are teaching our children to help another and to support those in need. |
